Case Study
Technology Company Moss Wall
The Vision
A tech client sought to bring nature and natural elements into their building. In other words, Biophilic Design! We had worked with this customer before, but this time the project involved multiple stakeholders including an architect, consulting firm as well as a client C-level executive and senior facilities manager. Stakeholders wanted a feature for a wall in a hallway that had a good amount of traffic. They wanted dimension and visual interest but without the maintenance of a Living Wall. Working with multiple stakeholders can be challenging. The architect wants to create a natural environment for the client, and it is up to us to translate this vision using plant elements.Solidifying the Design
In the beginning phases we met with all the key stakeholders as well as a General Contractor. We reviewed some images over video conference. It was determined that the contractor would supply reclaimed wood backing to fit the feel of the sustainable “return to nature” vision. Originally, our design included driftwood to match the wood backing. However, it was determined that the intent was to recreate a forest type scene that would only include mosses and fern type plant material. We went through a few iterations to get the colors and textures of the preserved plant features just right. For example, there was a request for additional color – more than one color of green to give more depth and some browns to pick up and accent the reclaimed wood background. Also, we loosened up the banding of the folia to help recreate how plants might look in nature – in alignment with the vision. Our final design included preserved folia of various tree, green rock, and asparagus plumosus fern. We used 3 types of moss including sheet moss, mood moss and pole moss. The Finish Line
We received all around positive feedback. The C-level executive exclaimed “This is quite beautiful! I love the different ferns and moss and the variety of greens. Thank you everyone!” Architect said “Botanical Designs did a great job! Nice to get some green nature in the space.” Consulting firm commented “Great plant choices. Moss wall looks beautiful!” And the Sr. Facilities Manager said “Nice! Great job everyone!”Contact Us
